Is he asexual?

[Link submitted didn't work, hope this is the right character]
Reasoning: Ok hear me out. I was watching an episode of Gomer Pyle USMC and came across this exchange between Gomer and one of the other soldiers
Soldier: "if you had to choose between a girl and a candy bar, what would you choose?"
Gomer: "What kind of candy bar?"
And if that's not a complete and total asexual mood I don't know what is.

Elizabeth MacRae was most known for playing the Southern Belle ''Lou-Ann Poovie'', Gomer's girlfriend in The Andy Griffith Show spin-off series Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (1964-1969). She also provided the voice of Ladyfish in the Don Knotts movie, The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964). She had a long acting career in other notable classic movies and TV shows such as Gunsmoke, Bonanza, I Dream of Jeannie, Rawhide, The Fugitive, and so many others. Ms. MacRae sadly passed away on May 27th early in the morning in a nursing home in her native North Carolina. She died peacefully in her sleep from natural causes. She was 88. Her caretaker Mary told me she loved the drawing and the gifts I sent her. (In the picture Mary shared with me, ''Betsy'' as friends called her was wearing two friendship bracelets my friend Catherine made her.)
Sadly, she was one of two surviving cast members from Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Now, only Ronnie Schell (Duke Slater) is still with us at 93 years old.
We love you, Betsy. Keep singing your ''Old Black Magic'' wherever you are.
RIP beautiful Angel 💔

Youtube Recommendations: Matt Baum
There are a lot of folks who are talking about LGBTQ+ issues on the internet nowadays, and one of the biggest topics in that space that has captured my interest is portrayal of LGBT people in media, its history, and its major players over the last couple of centuries. In that way, I don't think I've come across anyone who does it quite as good as Matt Baum.
Matt is, surprise, a media historian, primarily focusing on television and film, with a specific focus on LGBT rights and people involved in the industry, with a primary focus on gay and lesbian people, though of course he talks plenty about trans, nonbinary, and ace people and representation as well.
Typically, Matt's videos will focus on a single, specific individual from history, telling their life story, and using their lived experiences to help add context and flavor to the political and cultural climate of the time. You not only feel like you're being told a story about a person, but are also getting a rundown on just how hard people were fighting for equal rights for both oppressed minorities and people who have to hide who you are. He does also cover broader topics that you might not expect that turn out to be very important to the wider discussion of LGBTQ rights, like his episode going over the history of PBS.
His videos are always quite long, but not a second of them is ever wasted. Every time I watch a new video of his, I feel like I've come away from it with a newfound appreciation for the topic of discussion, especially for actors or behind-the-scenes players that I was unfamiliar with prior to watching his videos on them.
While his videos are framed around LGBT issues, they are also a really good primer for general media history, and they give a great overview for just how far things like the film and television history has come, while not shying away from the many, MANY questionable decisions that were made over the decades that these mediums have existed.
Basically, if you are interested at all in media analysis, media history, or LGBTQ history and how all these things are related, Matt Baum is an excellent place to start. Oh, and if you prefer the written word to videos, Matt is also a published author. I don't often promote other ventures from those that I watch on Youtube, but I've read one of his books. They are very, very good. So after you check out some of the videos I recommend below, please check out his books, Hi Honey, I'm Homo and Defining Marriage.
(Note that the above links are not sponsored; I legitimately think the books are worth checking out and the links provided will take you to their thriftbooks page, but you can find them basically wherever books are sold on the internet.)
Recommended Videos
When Gomer Pyle Married Rock Hudson: A biographical video focusing on the life and career of Jim Nabors. This was the first video of his that I came across and it's a good example of the sort of videos that Matt makes, thuogh it's a little on the short side compared to many of the videos that would come out after this.
The Gay Actor That Brought Batman To Life: A very heartfelt summary of Kevin Conroy's life and career, and how he related to the double life of Batman, being a gay man who always felt like he had to wear a mask.
The Birdcage and La Cage Aux Folles: Rather than being the biography of an individual, this is the history of an incredibly important work of gay theatre and film, covering its history on the stage and on the screen and how tough it was to get made in both instances.
Tales of the City and the Fight to Save PBS: A video giving the history of PBS and how important it has been as a service for both educational programming and pushing the boundaries of what could be shown on television.
Disney Renaissance Man: Probably my favorite video of his to date, a nice, beefy biography of Howard Ashman, who was responsible for making the film version of Little Shop of Horrors and Disney's original Little Mermaid film as memorable and amazing as they were.

Gomer Pyle Blu-Ray Box Set Review
Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.— The Complete Series includes all five seasons of the classic sitcom. This 20 disc set will provide hours of entertainment and laughter.
This hit spin-off from The Andy Griffith Show took one of the hilarious side characters, Gomer, and set a fresh new show around him that would exceed the hilarity which started in way back in Mayberry, North Carolina.
I still rank this comedy in my all-time top 10 list. The naive, but loveable country boy Gomer (Jim Nabors) and loudmouthed Sergeant Carter (Frank Sutton) play incredibly well off each other. This is probably the 20th time I've watched most of these classic episodes and I still gleefully appreciate the comedic genius of this old tv show.
The series is presented in HD for the first time in this 20 disc Blu-Ray set. The first season is in black and white with the rest in beautiful color. The transfer is solid and crisp, especially in season 2-5. Actors and actresses faces and overall presentation have never looked so delightfully clear. You'll even notice set pieces and landscapes in the background like never before. It's amazing when you realize these episodes are over 60 years old. Although this is presented in a 4x3 aspect ratio, it never hinders your appreciation for this series.
VIDEO QUALITY 📽️ :  B+
Tumblr media
For only a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track the sound is actually quite pleasant. It might be because I long enjoyed these episodes on an old picture tube television for years without complaining, but I can not find anything wrong with the mono mix here. I am also aware that not all of the music originally found from this series made it to this release sadly due to rights of usage.
AUDIO QUALITY 🔈 : B-
As far as the extras go, there aren't many (see below). There are also no dvds or digital copies available with this set either. While the disc extras here aren't numerous, I can understand that more than the lack of digital copies for the episodes.
Season One, Disc One:
Pilot Episode "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. from The Andy Griffth Show (480i, 28:09): The episode that debuted the character and concept. Includes the option to play the episode alone or with the "Sales Presentation" which is also included separately (see the next supplement below).
Sales Presentation (480i, 2:39): Jim Nabors introduces and closes out the episode, as is optionally seen with the episode above.
Season One, Disc Two:
Audio Commentary: Ronnie Schell, who played "Duke" on the show, discusses the first episode on the disc, "Gomer and the Dragon Lady."
EXTRAS 📀 :  D
FINAL GRADE:  B-
Clocking in at 3786 minutes, this is one box set that viewers both young and old can sit around and savor together for literally hours and hours. Even with the lack of extras here, this release gets my 100% recommendation. They don't make them (comedies) like this anymore.
